The fellows for the residency program have been selected!

Tony Miyambo
Angelinah Maponya
Rajesh Nirmal
Pankaj Tiwari

The process of selecting fellows for our residency program in cooperation with Artist in Residence Munich has been completed! We were overwhelmed that so many followed our call for applications for the scholarships and are very happy that the theater maker Tony Bonani Miyambo from Johannesburg will work as a scholarship holder in the international scholarship house Villa Waldberta on his project MI(GRATE) on the topic of migration during the summer months:

" I am curious about maps, traditional and digital, I’m interested in how contemporary and historical stories intersect on those maps and how we can experiment in performance to express some of these idea’s."

Due to the large number and diversity of the extraordinary applications, we have decided to award further working scholarships within the framework of SPIELART, which will take place remotely - accompanied and mentored by us. The artists Angelinah Maponya, Rajesh Nirmal and Pankaj Tiwari will work on their respective projects within these grants. In addition, we have awarded a travel grant to Beatriz Heredia Narvaez.

Emergency residency program for performative artists from Ukraine in Munich

Munich artist Anna Konjetzky, who has been associated with SPIELART for many years, and the Playground team need support:

In response to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the Playground team has initiated an emergency residency program for performing artists from Ukraine in Munich. The aim is to organize accommodation and financial support, as well as exchange and work opportunities for at least one month, but longer if possible. Whoever has a free room or apartment and can accommodate someone or wants to help in some other way - please get in touch! Who can support financially: please donate. By doing so, you make it possible to expand the program.

The first artists of the emergency residency program have already arrived and more artists are expected next week. The program is meant to be the start of a long-term solidarity and artist-to-artist support, which will be continued for other artists and countries as well, in order to perpetuate this 'Nomadic Solidarity/ground solidairty' in the artistic work.

The emergency residency program is an initiative of Playground GbR in cooperation with Büro Grandezza e.V. and the support of other Munich artists.

For accommodation, questions about the program and further support please contact playground@annakonjetzky.com.

Please send donations with the keyword "Not-Residenzprogramm" to Büro Grandezza e. V.
Credit institution: GLS-Bank
IBAN: DE86 4306 0967 1057 7639 00
All donors will receive a donation receipt and a statement of how the funds were used.
If you have any questions about donations, please contact jz@buerograndezza.org.

OPENING and OPENING PARTY

The OPENING of SPIELART Theaterfestival 2021 will take place at 6.30 pm in the Café of the Muffathalle.

After the performance of DANZA Y FRONTERA we celebrate at the OPENING PARTY in the Ampere. From 9 pm on TEREZA supports us here with music.

TEREZA is a DJ, radio host, curator, organizer and tastemaker. She initially made a name for herself in Germany and Europe through countless gigs in hip-hop. Driven by irrepressible curiosity and with great attention to detail, Tereza now digs and presents a broader spectrum of exciting music: from disco and house, to broken beat and polyrhythms, to soulful footwork, jungle and back. Always in tune with the times, both dancefloor and Bandcamp nerd-approved. With this musical reorientation, she has played renowned festivals and events such as Boiler Room, Melt! Festival, Fusion, MS Dockville, Taktraumfestival, been invited for guest mixes on the hip radio stations NTS (London) and Radio Raheem (Milan) and featured as "DJ to Watch" by Soundcloud. With her own monthly radio shows at the public station COSMO in WDR and at the London-based online radio station Worldwide FM, she has become - especially in 2020 - one of the most present German radio DJs coming from the underground club culture.

The entrance is free, come and join us!

WUNDER by Christiane Huber - 13. August 2021 in Altötting

Every year, the upper Bavarian pilgrimage site Altötting attracts approximately a million pilgrims from all over the world. The reason for this is the Miraculous Image of the Black Madonna, a 65 cm tall wooden statue, which came to the Chapel of Grace in Altötting in the late 13th century. In the feminist, theatrical happening WUNDER (WONDER), the director Christiane Huber, who grew up in the district of Altötting, wants to investigate how the religious symbolism can be reinterpreted in a contemporary way. Together with international performers and artists, this site and the icon are to be recharged with diverse, young, and queer perspectives. The performance examines the roots as well as the infrastructure of the ritual and goes down into the underground car park underneath the Chapel in which the participants perform a choreography of going on a pilgrimage. In a sound installation, the miracles and the history of the icon reverberate in order to change the frequency of the site temporarily. In WUNDER (WONDER), sounds of church bells, Christian renaissance music and hifi sounds mix religious symbolisms with current issues and investigate the body in relation to public space. The performers practise and dream of past, present and future miracles and transform new conceptual images of community into reality.

The performative sound installation in Altötting is followed by the performance WE CALL WONDERS, which will be premiered in the urban context in Munich at SPIELART.
