In the "Cherry Orchard" a play written in 1903 by Anton Chekhov, nothing takes places, but everything happens. From the beginning, the end of the cherry orchard and the social decline of the protagonists seem inevitable. But what happens to the Ranevskaya family when the play ends? Who are these characters beyond Chekhov's text? And what does the future of the cherry orchard look like? Will it be cut down to build holiday flats? In (SOMEWHERE) BEYOND THE CHERRY TREES the director and performer Prodromos Tsinikoris interweaves literary discourse and documentary work. In Athens, private individuals seeking to secure their place in the South, major international investors and changing eviction laws are creating incessant pressure on the housing market. To be able to afford rising rents, many people have to offer their flats on Airbnb - and thus become price drivers and gentrifiers themselves. (SOMEWHERE) BEYOND THE CHERRY TREES deals with the right to a place in the city, the conditions on the job market and the fate of those affected by gentrification. The show explores possibilities of overlapping and blending fictional characters with a present-day, documented reality.
