In conversation with Rosa Luckow and Sianza Zink from Radio 80000, the artists Imaad Majeed, Maria Matinyan, Vera Vishnevaya and Kay Kachatryan will talk about their artistic approaches and sound practices as DJs and sound artists.
Radio 80000 is a non-commercial community radio station at ZIRKA. Together with the artists, we will not only dive into a world of sound, but also learn more about the NOTHING TO DECLARE programme and their contributions to it.
Biography
Vera Vishnevaya is a Yerevan-based experimental musician, filmmaker, media, sound artist, and curator. In her solo musical output and dj-selections, Vera Vishnevaya combines dense soundscaping with offbeat rhythms. As an artist, her work deals with collective memory and trauma, in the form of sound installations. She has been actively researching local underground scenes, putting out line-ups for events and festivals, as well as showcasing the talents via the video platform sOr.
Kay Khachatryan is a sound artist, experimenter, and explorer of obscure sonic phenomena from Yerevan, using field recordings and self-built devices to capture and manipulate sounds. His work focuses on preserving the authenticity of street and acoustic noises, while exploring the timbre and psychological aspects of sound. A veteran of Yerevan's underground, Kay Khachatryan has been prolific in a wide range of underground genres from raw punk-rock and metal to futuristic deconstruction of club music.
Maria Matinyan is a Munich-based artist, art educator, and curator of Armenian descent. As a site-specific artist, she focuses on the examination of spaces, time, and (sound) memories. Together with other artists from Munich and Gyumri, she founded the social-cultural platform G.Urban to foster exchange between Armenian, German, and international artists. Three large projects have been realised since the platform’s inception: Ground Art Fest in Gyumri, residence programme M A R D S in Munich, and ARTWORKS FOR PEACE.
Imaad Majeed is a multidisciplinary artist living in Colombo, Sri Lanka. They are the director and curator of trilingual performance platform KACHA KACHA and write musical journalism contributions for international music blogs. Imaad Majeed additionally co-curates Thattu Pattu – a platform digitally uniting musicians of the Sri Lankan periphery. Their literature has been published in numerous magazines.
Sianza Zink is a DJ, freelance artist and part of the team behind Radio 80000. Her focus is on programme development and event planning.
Besides studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, she has been active in the city's music and club scene for years and is committed to gender diversity and cultural exchange.
Rosa Luckow is a visual artist concerned with socio-cultural and psychological issues in the digital age, with a strong interest in unconscious knowledge, interpersonal communication and privacy as opposed to publicity. Her investigations often form site-specific cross-media installations, objects and performances. Furthermore, her artistic practice extends to code- and modular-based live performances as well as a DJ practice under the pseudonym rosi96, focusing on raw yet diverse, dub-influenced, transcendental soundscapes. As a volunteer co-organizer of Radio 80000, she has organized and curated several listening events, such as the 24h contribution to the listening biennial COMMUNAL LISTENING WITH POSSIBILITIES OF REGENERATION and the experimental sound projects for and with Radio 80000 at Museum Brandhorst, documenta fifteen and Lothringer 13.
