In late 2013, Egypt made worldwide headlines when authorities detained a migratory stork due to an electronic device attached to its body. It was suspected of espionage. THE GENERAL’S STORK – an ongoing project that includes film, photography, archival material and performance – investigates the politics of aerial surveillance from a bird’s-eye view. Against the backdrop of biblical prophecies, colonial narratives and drone warfare, this performance confronts the contemporary conditions of state paranoia that turned a migrating bird into an international spy. With new material never presented before, Heba Y. Amin will be presenting the latest iteration of this project.
