KAMPF UM DIE STADT – Eine Wrestlingshow
Julian Warner | Veronika Maurer (Munich | Vienna)
Schedule
Premiere
Whether in Munich, Paris, Tokyo or New York: The rent is too high! Global corporations buy complete neighbourhoods wholesale, tenants are evicted on the spot, ousted from their quarters. It is survival of the fittest on the real estate market! Yet, who addresses the social question of our time? Who is to blame for the everyday misery? “Greedy landlords” or “affluent hipsters”? “Idle governments” or “drag queens”?
In KAMPF UM DIE STADT, the cultural struggle reverts to class struggle again.
Join us when the people on the street liberate themselves from the grip of right-wing demagogues, putting marketplace ideology in a headlock. Wrestling is a martial art, a choreography, and a spectacle. There are no grey areas in the ring. Rough contrasts begin direct negotiations here: Body against body, good versus bad. Six professional wrestlers compete against each other, by themselves or in so-called tag teams. With whirling bodies, music, acting, and slapstick interludes, wrestling presents itself as the sensual form of a dialectical theatre which stages the contradictions of our late-stage capitalist present.
