How do Frankfurt school children greet each other in the morning? And how do they do it in São Paulo and Beirut? What is the sound of the ocean in La Union in the Philippines? Children from different parts of the world sent each other voice messages, telling stories from their day-to-day lives, explaining their favourite dances. In collaboration with an international team of choreographers – Ghida Hachicho, Alejandro Ahmed, and Eisa Jocson –, a performative audio drama for children ages 8 and up (and for grown-ups, too) emerged, inviting its audience to participate, dance, and get to know each other: Everyone receives the same choreographic instructions that direct the dancing group through the spaces of Muffatwerk while they find a shared rhythm. What could our future look like in a world in which problems can only be solved together? Join us on an exploratory journey, let us dance Dabke and fly through a “room without walls” that welcomes everybody.

Biography

LIGNA is a collective of media and performance artists: Ole Frahm, Michael Hüners, and Torsten Michaelsen. They are considered pioneers of the collective audio walk. With RADIOBALLETT (2002), they developed a genre-defining form of intervention that gained international recognition. Their works understand the audience as a dispersed collective of producers: empowerment, the exploration of new spaces of movement, absence and presence—whether of historically suppressed or geographically distant situations—are recurring motifs. Their works have been presented at Mousonturm Frankfurt, Tanz im August, and Zürcher Theater Spektakel, among others. LIGNA has received the George Tabori Prize and has twice been awarded the Bulgarian ICAR Award for Best Performance.

Ghida Hachicho is one of the most exciting voices in Beirut’s contemporary dance and performance scene. Her choreographic works are known for their analytical precision and humorous attention to detail. In STUDIES ON MOVEMENT OF A GROUP (2021), which premiered at the festival THIS IS NOT LEBANON, Ghida Hachicho investigates group and swarm behavior: how relationships between individuals emerge and what these dynamics reveal about the individual in relation to the collective.

Alejandro Ahmed was born in Uruguay and has lived in Brazil since 1974. A self-taught artist, he has worked as a dancer since 1984. In the 1990s, he participated in masterclasses with artists such as Sasha Waltz. His artistic focus centers on the limits of the body and the possibilities of its transformation. Alejandro Ahmed joined the company CENA 11 in 1988 and has led it since 1993. CENA 11 is considered the punk collective of Brazil’s dance and performance scene. Since 2023, he is the Artistic Director of the Balé da Cidade de São Paulo.

Eisa Jocson is a choreographer and dancer based in La Union (Philippines). She trained as a visual artist and began dancing through ballet and pole dance. Her work reveals the politics of the body within the service and entertainment industries, viewed through the socio-economic lens of the Philippines. She received the Thirteen Artists Awards from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in 2018, won the Hugo Boss Asia Art Award in 2019, and was awarded the SeMa-HANA Award in 2021 for her work TFSB2020: SUPERWOMAN, EMPIRE OF CARE at the Seoul Mediacity Biennale.
