GÉOLOGIE D'UNE FABLE [ORIGIN OF A TALE]

Info

The tales with which we grow up are mostly more ancient than we realise, having travelled through languages and cultures alike. Aurélien Zouki and Éric Deniaud explore the origins of these stories and uncover a mode of artistic expression that is universally comprehensible: They mould clay landscapes, exposing, like geologists, layer by layer, the oldest fables of humanity. They carve, mould, and draw – accompanied by music from all around the globe –, breathing life into this raw material. Thus emerge seagulls, rabbits, sheep, turtles, donkeys, and oxen – a whole animal kingdom is created, only to vanish within the next instant, to make room for new things. In a combination of music and object theatre, the audience, especially a young audience from the age of 6 and up, is taken on a poetic voyage through space and time – across all borders.

Biography

Founded by four Lebanese artists in 2007, Collectif Kahraba aims to reach a broad audience, and to bring art – despite the lack of infrastructure – into rural areas in Lebanon. They perform on village squares, in libraries and schools and foster an understanding of the arts based on openness and dialogue. The collective initiated the US, THE MOON AND THE NEIGHBORS festival in 2011, while managing Hammana Artist House near Beirut from 2017 until 2025.
