Trigger warning: This piece is a risky attempt at dialogue in times of rising polarisation. Yet who is warned of whom? Inspired by the relation of a leftist cultural scholar and theorist and a New Right author, Julian Hetzel develops a provocative two-person play in THREE TIMES LEFT IS RIGHT, negotiating global politics at the kitchen table: Kristien de Proost and Josse de Pauw assume the roles of this unusual married couple as they throw themselves into an intimate battle about political convictions, familiar closeness and the rift that tears through society as well as through private life. Torn between contradictory persuasions, they embody the challenge of living together under irreconcilable ideologies. When does the private become political? How do you raise your children if you cling on to opposed worldviews? And what part does love play in this? A balancing act in the midst of growing social division and an invitation to the audience to spring into action – as an audience member, as a citizen, as a human being.
